2019 Makeup Internships: Week One

Makeup Internships: Week One

And just like that, week one is in the books! We knocked out our first two classes over Labor Day weekend, and we couldn’t be happier with our insanely talented Interns!

Class One: Meet Your Kit and SFX Makeup Safety

We kicked off on Friday, August 30th with an evening focused on getting to know one another, and dug into their new kits. Interns each get their very own kits, thanks to our amazing internship sponsors, Halloween Express, Albers Painting, and the SD Jaycees Senate.

Starter makeup kits include:

  • Mehron paradise paint (Primary Colors)

  • Mehron bruise wheel
  • 32 count brushes

  • Blood

  • Scab blood

  • Pros Aide

  • Isopropyl Myristate

  • Glycerin
  •
Latex

  • Isopropyl Alcohol
  • Glue stick
  • Stipple Sponges

Interns then played with their new kit items in a free-paint exercise while learning about all kinds of SFX items, such as Rigid Collodion, contacts, prosthetics and more and some common safety concerns to keep in mind with makeup in general and within a haunt specifically.

The most fun part of the free paint was seeing what each artist gravitated towards (body paints vs. sfx build ups) and just how creative they were using these products!

Class Two: 3D Wounds, Burns & Bruises

Day two brought us to working with some out-of-kit makeup techniques for injury makeups! We started with bruise buildups, moved on to silicone wounds, created latex cuts, and finally used home-made gelatin to create realistic looking burns.
